Following a seperation, the mediator can assist parties in dividing assets, establishing a custody agreement, and determining child support & alimony payments. The mediator's role is to explore parties' needs and interests in the hopes of reaching a mutually satisfactory agreement. As a voluntary process, it is grounded in the notion of good faith. Mediation is often used as an alternative to the court system for people who wish to come to an amicable agreement.
